今日はイギリスのスーパーグループFrost*が『13 Winters』というアンソロジー＆アートブックボックスをリリースするというのでそちらを見ていこうと思います。

バンド概要

Frost*(フロスト)はイギリスの作曲家・音楽プロデューサーであるJem Godfreyが中心となり結成したプログレのスーパーグループ。

結成は2004年で、メンバーにはArenaやKinoで活躍するギタリストのJohn Mitchell、IQのドラマーAndy Edwards、同じくIQのベーシストJohn Jowitt、そしてギタリストのJohn Boyesが招集されています。

2006年、その5人で作り上げた1stアルバム『Milliontown』がリリースされるや繊細かつテクニカルでありながら、ポップなサウンドメイクと楽曲でバンドは国内外で高い評価を得ることになります。

2008年の2ndアルバム『Experiments in Mass Appeal』ではメンバーを刷新してバンドを復活、限定的にライブを行いますが、作曲家として売れっ子であるジェムの健康状態を考慮し作品リリース毎に活動休止を繰り返しています。

2011年にイベント絡みで数度ライブを行うと、これがきっかけで再再結成。

2016年に元のミッチェルに加え、新たにIt BitesのNathan King、PendragonのCraig Blundellと言ったいずれもイギリスのネオプログレッシブ・ロックの大ベテランたちが参加し、3rdアルバム『Falling Satellites』をリリースします。

今年2020年にはそんな『Falling Satellites』と同時期に書かれた曲を収録した兄弟的EP『Others』をリリース。実に7年ぶりの新作が話題になりました。

13 Winters

さて、このたび限定版としてリリースされる『13 Winters』ではそんな過去のアルバムを2020年版でフルリマスタリング！

オリジナルアルバム3枚と直近のEPはもちろん、『Falling Satellites』のインスト音源、さらに2009年や2017年に行われたライブ音源、そして8枚目には日本で言うカップリング曲やレア音源もまとめて収録するなど、ファンはもちろんこれからFrost*を知りたいと思っている人にもオススメなオールインワンボックスです。

その上アートブックまで付いてくるのでどこまでもプログレファンの心理をわかっていますね。ちなみにFrost*は来年春にニューアルバムも予定しているそうです。

お値段は46.55€、日本円にして5800円くらいと安すぎず高すぎずな感じ。学生ならいざ知らず、大人なら十分手の伸びる価格設定です。世界で3000部限定なのでお早めにどうぞ。
